Realities and revelations – RSA, London, 10 November 07
This session examined the expectations, burdens and pressure of cultural leadership. 'BME', women and people with disabilities who are also leaders experience pressure as a result of being seen as representative of specific communities: is it possible to lessen/challenge this 'burden of representation'? Do leaders in the cultural sector experience specific problems or is leadership the same no matter which sector you work in? This session aimed to be a frank, open discussion of some of the key issues for cultural leaders in England, removing the public façade and getting to grips with the realities of a professional life that sometimes makes people 'go home and cry'.
